How long have you been doing CrossFit?

3 years

What made you decide to give 7 Mile Strength & Fitness a try?

I was bored of the conventional gyms so I tried Muscle Beach with Coach Trevor (just as he was getting ready to leave the island), then I found out that he also coached at 7 Mile Strength & Fitness and heard about the other great coaches through co-workers – they were right.

What was the hardest part when you started out and how did you overcome that?

Learning to be patient and trusting the process. When I started I had that sense of not wanting to fail, I wanted to be at the same level as everyone. I didn’t want to miss a rep or to be the last person to complete a WOD or to cap out. With guidance from my Coach-for-Life, Chris, I learned to focus on me and to listen to my body. I realized that unless I “failed” I wouldn’t know my true potential.

Name something you’re most proud of in the gym.

I’m proud of having such great coaches that know everyone’s names and potential.

What are some things you’ve noticed about yourself that may be different now than when you first started with us? (i.e. better mood, sleeping better, drinking more water etc?)

A lot has changed since I’ve started. I’m more energized and therefore in a better mood. I’m stronger not just inside the gym but outside as well, and I’m also conscious of my nutrition. My body craves the movement; it feels like its breaking down when I skip a few sessions. Did I mention I now hear voices in my head whispering, “breathe through your nose and lift with your legs”.

Your Coach -for-Life, Chris, mentioned you have been really consistent and really doing well in workouts. What keeps you motivated to keep coming back?

Apart from the coaches pushing and encouraging me, it’s motivating to work out with a group of people of different ages and fitness levels who share a common goal.

Did you play any sports growing up?

Does cheering from the bleachers count?!? I was always that kid praying not to be picked (that’s why I didn’t lean to skip rope until I joined CrossFit).

Anything people at 7 Mile Strength & Fitness don’t know about you?

I think I come across as quiet but I’m actually very chatty once I get to know people.

Anything crazy on your bucket list? (bungee jumping, sky diving?)

Tried sky diving against my better judgement so no more crazy for me. The big ticket item is to travel Europe, eat all the cheese and drink all the wine until my heart is content.

What is your favorite WOD and why?

If asked this when I first started I would have quickly responded the “the cool down”! Ha Ha Ha
I really enjoy the lift WODs – it’s rewarding to compare previous weights and track my progress even if it’s by 1lb.

What is your least favorite WOD and why?

Death by burpees! Any WOD with burpees should be illegal.

What has been your biggest surprise about doing CrossFit?

I’ve tried just about all the gyms on island and many another workout groups before and after starting CrossFit, and there is no greater satisfaction than completing a WOD. So the biggest surprise has been my commitment to my fitness.

Would you recommend 7 Mile Strength & Fitness to others and if so, why?

I regularly recommend and share my experience thus far at 7 Mile Strength & Fitness. The community is just unreal, the Coaches and their genuine interest in our fitness is a huge factor, without them it would simply be just a regular gym.
