How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started in 2015, crazy to think this is my 5th year.


What made you decide to give 7 Mile Strength & Fitness a try?

I had just moved to the island and was doing bootcamp back in South Africa, there was no Bootcamp on island at the time and I wanted to continue my fitness journey. I am no good at being left on my own in a regular gym so CrossFit felt like the perfect fit.


What was the hardest part when you started out and how did you overcome that?

Knowing how heavy to go, or how to pace myself. More practice and coaches advice helped that, and it can still be a struggle at times.


Name one thing you’re really proud of – either inside or outside the gym.

My quarantine push-ups! I am still doing them from a surface or my knees, but can feel I am getting stronger.


Obviously we are in a very strange time. What are some things you’ve been doing to keep you sane? I’ve been noticing your culinary skills. What is the first thing you want do when this is all over? What is something you’re doing more of now than before COVID?

I have been loving my afternoon walks; give me a good podcast and I can walk for miles. I hope when all goes back to normal I can still find time for that. I have also started journaling again, I want to remember what these times were like , the good and the bad, 20 years on.


So tell us…are there many rivalries between you and Chase? haha…. I notice he’s got you beat on the mobility…hahaha!

HAHA! I Find it so unfair that he has a six pack and I don’t, yet I’ll beat him in a sit-up or core challenge any day!


What’s one thing you miss from the motherland S.A?

I miss having all four seasons.


Anything people at 7 Mile Strength & Fitness don’t know about you?

Mmmmmm I talk in my sleep.


Anything crazy on your bucket list? (bungee jumping, sky diving, hiking?)

I would never bungee jump, maybe skydiving, but I would love to climb Kilimanjaro.


What is your favorite WOD and why?

Any WOD with a descending rep scheme.


What is your least favorite WOD and why?

Thrusters and burpees over bar. Open 16.5 , I say no more.


What has been your biggest surprise about doing CrossFit?

That the workouts never get easier.


Would you recommend 7 Mile Strength & Fitness to others and if so, why?

Hell yes!!! So everyone can learn to do squats and push-ups the proper way-Haha. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be apart of such an uplifting and supportive community.
