Brett Sepi

Coach

Brett joins the CrossFit 7 Mile coaching staff with an abundance of experience on and off the competitive CrossFit arena. He found CrossFit in 2007 when his former high school strength and conditioning coach asked him to help out at an after school program for teachers. Brett instantly fell in love with the methodology, so much so that he changed his college major to Human Movement Studies. He has since achieved elite levels of competition, as far as taking second place as captain of Team SPC at the 2012 CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup. He has also competed twice at the Regional level as an individual athlete and three times on an affiliate team. As a coach, Brett appreciates the relationships and bonds created in an environment that fosters such a tight-knit community, and being able to be a part of each member’s story.

“I love when you see members achieve the goals they came in to reach and how happy they are to be where they wanted to be. Whether it’s goals related to numbers in the gym or goals outside the gym like getting off medications, as a coach nothing feels better than knowing you helped them get there.”

Carl Brenton

Commander In Chief

Carl Brenton is the Commander in Chief here at CrossFit 7 Mile. He specializes in creating a community that inspires others to make a positive change in their lives – he also makes sure the lights stay on. “I’m passionate about creating the best member experience I can and that also means we love giving our team the tools they need to be the best coaches they can be.”

While Carl loves to talk business, he’s also quite the athlete. “I played sports most of my life – sports like beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, rugby, flag football and softball. I also competed on an affiliate team at the 2010 CrossFit Games.”

Despite his athletic background, he will still tell you that his wife is a lot fitter than he is. “It’s true. BUT CrossFit has still allowed me to stay ahead of most other 40-something-year-old accountants!”

Chris Spigner

Head Coach

Chris Spigner is the head coach here at CrossFit 7 Mile. He specializes in CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting and motivating his athletes to be the best they can be. “I love my job, my family, my friends and the people that I get to interact with at 7 Mile.”

Coach Chris’ start in the fitness world came by way of playing a wide range of sports in his childhood. He played collegiate baseball taking his team to the National Championship game and played minor league ball for a few teams including the Boston Red Sox’s minor league team.

“After my baseball career ended, I lost my way for a few years. I gained 60 pounds, wore size 40 pants, drank too much, smoked all the time, and ate terrible food. I discovered CrossFit and it saved my life. I then realized I loved helping with the people in the classes even more than I enjoyed training myself. I tried to soak up all the information I could from the coaches, got certified, and then the stars aligned for me to come to Cayman! Best decision I have ever made.”

Dona Karlowee

Co-owner, Coach

Dona Karlowee is a co-owner and coach here at CrossFit 7 Mile. She specializes in CrossFit, mobility and having a great time! “I’m passionate about travel, movies, books, beer, delicious food, and of course, CrossFit! I strongly believe that our lives should have a good work/life balance and that we must make time for activities that enrich and fulfill our lives.”

If anyone knows how to balance work and play, it’s Coach Dona. In 2014, she competed in the CrossFit Latin America Team Regionals. Although, she jokes that she still gets nervous right before the workout starts.

“I managed to fall in love with CrossFit, and actually get pretty good at it, with almost no athletic background to speak of. I want to share my experience with other people who perhaps don’t see themselves as athletes but are still looking for a program that’s fun and will get them into shape.”

Jesse Parham

Junior Coach and CrossFit Kids Coach

“I was a member of the gym for just over a year and I had the opportunity to help coach a CrossFit Kids Easter camp. I enjoyed every second of it and was given the chance to intern and become a coach. Since then I have gotten my CrossFit Level 1 and CrossFit Kids certifications with the plan to attain more in the future. I have also been coaching the Couch-to-5K and Marathon training programs which I really enjoy. I love it when someone accomplishes something they thought they couldn’t originally do – when they set a goal for themselves and that moment when they achieve their goal, you can’t help but smile and be happy.”

Julia Avery

Coach

Coach Julia Avery worked for four years in investor relations and marketing but she was never truly satisfied with her job. “So I asked myself what really made me happy, and the answer was fitness,” she says. Coaching CrossFit was the obvious solution for this life-long athlete.

Her favorite thing about coaching CrossFit is “When you notice someone you’ve been coaching starts walking a little taller, holds their head a little higher and just carries themselves with more confidence than before,” she says. “To know that you impacted someone’s life, not only inside but also outside the gym, is pretty amazing.”

Megan Leitch

Junior Coach

“I fell in love with CrossFit pretty much right from the start especially as someone who is super competitive (my husband can barely handle playing Monopoly with me). CrossFit has taught me to push my limits not only physically, but mentally as well. I love the constantly varied nature of the program and love getting to try new things. It is something that I’ve become really passionate about and coaching allows me to share my enthusiasm for a healthy and fulfilling life with others. I love to see clients reach new goals, bring on that new PR!”

In 2012 and 2013, he went to the Games as a team competitor and in 2015, he qualified as an individual to the Latin American Regionals finishing 30th worldwide as a Masters athlete.

Wanda Brenton

Co-owner, Professional Athlete, Coach

Wanda Brenton is the owner of CrossFit 7 Mile who is also training to compete in the 2019 CrossFit Games. She specializes in coaching elite athletes and showing other women that great athletic achievements can be accomplished by a mother in her 40s. Coach Wanda’s notable athletic achievements include being a 5 time CrossFit Games Competitor and a Cayman Islands National Team Beach Volleyball Player.

While she loves to compete, she says that she gets the most joy from seeing her members progress and find their strength and confidence. “We have the greatest members here at CrossFit 7 Mile. I love that our daughter is growing up around strong, confident athletes. I hope that she grows up without the typical feelings women have had about their bodies and can be proud of who she is.”
